Concept art for the stargate sequence in 2001 A Space Odyssey. These are from the book The Making of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 A Space Odyssey by Piers Bizony. An amazing book but an absolute but pain to read and scan because of its vertical ‘monolith’ shape. It would’ve been better presented in landscape format. Sadly the book doesnt credit these concept illustrations but it may be Roy Carnon who did some production artwork, it may have been production designer Tony Masters or even special effects wiz Douglas Trumbull.
